New to online lessons?
Here’s some info that you might find useful.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
-
Please check your camera, microphone and speakers before joining. It is also useful to have water, any sheet music or lyrics, and your backing tracks ready so we can make the most of the session. -
Please download the latest version of the Zoom app before your lesson. In your audio settings, select Original Sound for Musicians and make sure it is switched on during the lesson. Zoom’s standard noise suppression is designed for speech and can interfere with sustained singing, so using Original Sound allows me to hear your voice more accurately.
-
Try to work as close to your Wi-Fi router as possible and minimise other devices streaming or downloading during your lesson. If available, an Ethernet cable connecting your laptop directly to your router will usually provide a more stable connection.
-
A laptop or desktop computer is preferable for the Zoom call. You will also need a second device, such as a phone or tablet, to play backing tracks or accompaniment when required.t. -
Please have a pair of headphones or earphones available. These can be particularly useful when working with backing tracks, as they help prevent the accompaniment feeding back through your microphone. Wired headphones are ideal where possible. -
Camera position
Position your camera so I can clearly see your face and upper body, ideally with enough space for me to see your general posture and breathing. Try to place the camera roughly at eye level rather than looking down at a phone or laptop.Lighting
Make sure your face is clearly visible. Avoid sitting directly in front of a bright window, as this can make it difficult for me to see you properly. -
Lessons should take place in a quiet, private and neutral space such as a living room, kitchen, office or dedicated practice room. Make sure you have enough room to stand comfortably and move if needed.
